Every year, Brant’s company hosts a service project entitled Christmas in October. The idea is to find an area in need and dedicate time to fulfill that need. In South Africa this year they located an orphanage that was in disrepair and organized an event to fix up the orphanage and have a fun filled day of food and activities for the children and workers that reside there. Volunteers are divided into teams and in this case, each team was assigned a house to fix up. Our good friend Ben captained our team. He went out several times before the big day and assessed the project. Several of the guys put in about 2 days of work before the scheduled working day so that we could be sure that day of, our house would be completed. It turned out that it was a good thing they spent so much time in advance working because we were able to easily finish our project. I worked in the garden and Brantley, of course, utilized his many years of painting experience :). The project consisted of repairing light fixtures, painting, repairing shelving, plumbing, and gardening. It was a very busy and fulfilling day.
Hope you enjoy some of the pictures 🙂
Love from South Africa!
